Keyless entry systems are a modern marvel!
Does your car have a keyless entry system?
Modern day technology has spoiled us in more ways than we can fathom. We have products and inventions that our grandparents have trouble grasping the concept of and today’s youth will never know the “good old days before all of these lovely inventions. The automobile industry has spoiled us in so many ways in recent years, but my personal and still all-time favorite is the keyless entry.
I used to hate fumbling with my keys when it was raining, snowing or freezing cold while trying to get the doors unlocked as quickly as possible. When it was pitch dark outside, I loathed trying to find the keyhole without standing there for entirely too long. I ended up scratching my car a few times just from trying to find the keyhole.
I was also paranoid when it was dark and deserted outside and I was trying to unlock my car. It was too perfect a scenario for something horrible to happen. Luckily, it never did. Keyless entry has eliminated all of those stressful moments from my life. I am now free to get stressed over other situations and need to find something else to complain about.
Now, when it is raining or snowing, I can have my car unlocked before I reach it, just by pushing a little unlock button on my keyless entry remote. I don’t even have to pause when I get to my car, I simply open the door and make myself comfortable inside. Most cars now come with a keyless entry system already installed in them. If you have an older car that doesn’t yet have this luxury, perhaps it is something worth considering.
My absolute favorite part of having a vehicle with a keyless entry system is being able to lock my car from the comforts of my home. If it is pouring down rain and I want to be certain that my car is locked but am not willing to get wet, I can lock it from inside of my home. I never have to step a foot outside my door and splash in the puddles. I love it. Isn’t technology great?
When my mom first got a car with a keyless remote, I thought it was a truly bad idea. I cannot see how a keyless entry system could be necessary, let alone beneficial. It seems to me that the more technology that people use, the more that is likely to go wrong. Keyless entry systems may look good on the surface, but I could not see them lasting for very long. I thought about my mom’s last car – a Honda Odyssey. It had automatic electronic sliding doors in back, rather than the normal ones that you slide by hand. She had only owned the car for about a year when the doors completely stopped working. They totally broke down! If she had had normal sliding doors, she never would have run into a problem. If it isn’t broke, why fix it? Why replace old technology that works well?
So many individuals with nice vehicles invest in a car alarm system to protect their investment. This is all fine and good, but I wouldn’t worry about your car getting stolen as much as I would someone entering your car and lying low until you get in the driver’s seat. This is much more life threatening. That’s where a quality car alarm system can really come through. Don’t give them access!
Nonetheless, so far I have been pretty impressed with the keyless entry system. It has worked every single time. All she has to do is get near the car and it fires up, ready for her to get in. Although she has only had the car for a year and a half, so far it seems pretty good. I have heard that there are some security advantages to keyless entry systems as well. Normal car locks can be picked, but a keyless entry security system is foolproof. Supposedly they send out encrypted signals which are very difficult to duplicate. Unless you have a keyless entry remote yourself, you can’t get in.
The one thing I don’t like about the keyless entry system is the keyless remote start. I find the idea of the car starting on its own not only to be unnecessary, but a little bit creepy as well. If something fails on the keyless entry system, nothing bad happens except that the car doors lock or unlock when they’re not supposed to. If the keyless autostart breaks down, however, it can leave the car running for hours. If that happens while the car is parked in the garage, it can fill the whole place up with smoke. This could even suffocate people inside the house! Needless to say, I don’t think all the keyless entry systems in the world are worth one family dying of carbon monoxide poisoning. My mom may think her keyless entry system is pretty neat, but give me a good old-fashioned key any time.
When it comes to our vehicles, we like to go all out. Maybe you’re not up to speed on all the latest bells and whistles, but let me assure you there are plenty to choose from and enjoy. After speaking with a mechanic at my local service station the other day, I found out something totally new. New to me anyway. Many upper-scale vehicles are now being built with tires that don’t go flat. The wheels are linked to a computer system on the dash that lets you know if you get a flat tire, but the tire itself remains inflated so that you can drive to where you need to and have it serviced. That’s pretty sweet! I’m amazed by today’s vehicular technology. But, nothing gets me more excited than all the modern safety features. From alarm sensors, to keyless remote locks, to starting your engine from a far, this stuff really rocks! How safe is your ride these days?
The first time I saw keyless remote start in action, I was shocked. Finally we had what Michael Knight had. Kit is not the only car that’s ready for action before you even climb inside. Please tell me you get the “Night Rider” reference. In not, I must be getting pretty old. Anyway, let’s examine the safety aspect of having the keyless remote start feature. So there you are in a dank, dimly lit parking garage. As you stride quickly to your vehicle, your muscles begin to tense. Maybe you’re feeling a bit exposed or unsafe in your environment. As you spot your vehicle in the distance, you thumb the keyless remote keypad and start the engine. Then as you draw closer, you punch the UNLOCK button and make only the driver’s door accessible. Perfect! You glance about and make certain no one is approaching, and then hop into your vehicle, immediately locking the door. You’re safe and ready to peel out of there. Even if someone did attempt to break in at this point, you’re already burning rubber and the vehicle is on lock-down.
I’m probably one of the most absent-minded people you’ll ever meet in your life. If my family goes on vacation to Hawaii, I’m the one who forgets my swimsuit. If I need to buy five things from the grocery store, I’ll return home with just four. If I do a load of laundry, I sometimes forget to add the detergent. I guess I’m just so busy thinking about other things that I have trouble paying attention to what I’m doing!
While the examples I listed above are pretty harmless on the whole, there are other times when my absent-mindedness poses a major inconvenience. For instance, I frequently lock myself out of the house and have to wait around for someone else to come home — all the while being unable to take my dog out for a much-needed walk (resulting in an accident that I have to clean up) or unable to get dinner going. That’s why I’m so glad I finally invested in keyless door locks for my home.
Keyless door locks aren’t just for high-tech office buildings anymore! They have many residential applications as well, and since they’re surprisingly affordable these days, they’re a great alternative to those of us tired of having to keep track of a bunch of keys. I’ve had keyless door locks installed on my gate, at the front and back entrances, and the garage, so now I can access any part of my property without worrying about whether or not I have the right key on hand. All I had to do was commit the four-digit codes to memory (I’m actually good with numbers like this), and keep a copy of the codes in my wallet just as a backup.
At first, I was a bit concerned about how safe keyless door locks are compared to their more traditional counterparts, but the salesman I talked to really put my mind at ease. In fact, I learned that keyless door locks are actually a lot safer because they’re impervious to picks and other common burglary tools. So long as you don’t divulge the access code to anyone, your doors won’t be any more susceptible to break-ins than before.
Keyless door locks are available at most home improvements stores or from online retailers as well. While it’s possible to install them yourself, I’d recommend having a professional locksmith come and do it just to make sure that everything ends up working properly. After all, you don’t want to take any unnecessary risks with your family’s safety on the line! Get a decent car alarm system and always leave your vehicle doors locked; even when you’re driving. Every time you stop at a light or stop sign, an assailant has the opportunity to walk up and enter your vehicle.
Growing up we never had a car alarm or security system in our vehicle. The truth is this was a different time and we resided in a very small town. Literally around 1500 people. At least I call that small. We were never too worried about violence and car theft. That sort of thing just never happened there. These days I can’t say that I hold the same attitude. While I still live in a fairly rural area, I’m not blind to what goes on. Just because you’re not seeing homes getting robbed in your suburb, doesn’t mean that all is safe and well. The reality is that violence and crime will appear regardless of where you live, just to different degrees. And that’s why I invested in a car alarm. It didn’t run me into the ground financial-wise or anything like that.
Alarm Systems
Alarm systems are available for individuals as well as businesses, and provide security, safety, and peace of mind too. Alarm systems are in homes, vehicles, motorcycles, businesses, schools, and anywhere that people or objects must be protected. Fire alarm systems and burglar alarm systems for home security are very popular, as are medical alarm systems for elderly persons who live alone. Alarm systems vary greatly in price depending on what features are included and the monthly charge for monitoring the system. Before having any type of alarm system installed, consumers should consult a number of professionals and gather information regarding different types of alarms, the sensitivity of the system, ease of installation and associated charges, key features, false alarms, monthly monitoring charges, and other possible unforeseen expenses of using the system.
There are many companies located nationwide and locally that specialize in all types of alarm systems, including wireless systems, motion detectors, video surveillance cameras, keyless entry systems for vehicles and motorcycles, fire alarms, broken glass sensors, closed circuit television systems, pressure mats, smoke alarm systems, and panic buttons. There is an alarm system for every situation. Some work well alone, and others must be used in conjunction with other alarm systems. For example, an indoor motion detector is only effective when someone has already entered the house, but can be combined with a perimeter alarm system or broken glass sensors to go off immediately in the event of a home intrusion. As most probably already know, false alarms are quite common, and according to State Farm Insurance, over ninety-five percent of all false alarms are due to user error.
More information on alarm systems can be found online at www.adt.com, www.central-alarms.com, www.protectamerica.com, or at a number of other sites that specialize in home and business alarm systems and security. Several different types of security systems can also be purchased for do-it-yourself installation for quite a bit less than a professional install. Visit www.alert-1.com or www.youdoitsecurity.com for more information on these types of security systems. Unfortunately, the days are gone where you could leave the front door unlocked and go to bed at night, or leave valuables overnight in an unlocked vehicle. Everything of value can be gone in just a blink of and eye and no one wants that to happen. Check out all the different types of systems available and make sure what you buy has only the features that you want; otherwise you may be paying for something you’ll never use.
